| A
deep rooted speciality
You probably wouldn’t think of a company with our reputation
for excellence in ‘heritage’ lighting as radical. But
you should – especially when you bear in mind the real meaning
of the word – from the roots – and the fact that our
roots are amongst the deepest and strongest in the lighting industry.
Effective, respectful restoration involves all the traditional
craftsmanship and skill that went into the product’s original
creation. But making a vintage column meet modern performance and
quality standards calls for a whole new set of talents: the design
ingenuity and technical expertise to build the latest optics and
the circuitry into housings originally designed for a very different,
less demanding age.
There are plenty of companies capable of ‘tidying up’
worn and weathered columns and lanterns. We prefer a hands-on approach
with real involvement which can mean deconstructing each piece of
equipment, rebuilding, re-engineering and sensitively recreating
a product as good as new or better.
We take the responsibility of preserving important parts of the
nation’s architectural legacy very seriously, working closely
with English Heritage to ensure that every detail is as historically
authentic as it is technically excellent.
Our desire to make the latest lighting technology add new brilliance
to century-old designs challenges are technical and design talents
to the same degree as any of our new product concepts. It calls
for rigorous testing throughout the project in our own laboratory
to ensure that the best of old and new complies with the most exacting
modern performance standards.
