DW Windsor’s range of Heritage street lighting lanterns and columns has been at the heart of its business since the company's foundation. This range of historic and period-style lanterns offers a wealth of stylistic possibilities for all kinds of urban, suburban and rural environments, including Victorian streets, Edwardian housing estates and Georgian villas. All Heritage lanterns, columns and brackets are distinguished by authentic detailing and precise construction, while applications encompass every type of lighting, from major traffic routes through to pedestrian squares.

As their names suggest, many of these lanterns and columns were created for specific civic locations around the country - something that has given the company considerable hands-on experience in luminaire development. While the collection is historic in form, it offers the benefits of robust, modern materials - and the most up-to-date contemporary lighting technologies, such as the new generation of ceramic metal halide lamps. To precisely control their light output, and to minimise light pollution, all these lanterns can be fitted with DW Windsor’s innovative Diamond Optic® reflector system.

Less ornate and period-specific than the Heritage range, the Urban Classic collection brings together a number of distinctive lantern options with a timeless design quality derived from the first 50 years or so of electric lighting. Once again many of these designs have been developed over the years for various prestigious towns and cities.

Suitable for less specifically historic urban locations, these luminaires will blend in with a range of building styles and mixed design environments - and can be used for every type of application, from main traffic routes to riverside walks. Robust construction, modern materials and the latest lighting technologies mark out these classically styled luminaires. They can all be fitted with our patented Diamond Optic® optical control system, for accurate light distribution without light pollution.

With its clean lines, rounded forms and minimal decorative detail, the Urban Contemporary range of luminaires is designed to blend into most urban and suburban
environments. Simplicity and functionality are the signatures of the Urban Contemporary collection, which is marked out by a common familial resemblance - all the soft, non-angular luminaire shapes being based on circles, globes and ellipses, with barely a sharp angle in sight.

Distinctly contemporary in appearance, yet non-aggressive in their styling, Urban Contemporary luminaires are constructed from robust, durable materials and employ the latest lighting technologies. These luminaires can be used for all types of application, from through routes in city centres to rural by-ways. Most luminaires can be fitted with DW Windsor’s patented Diamond Optic® light control system, for precise distribution and light pollution avoidance.

As we move into the 21st century, modern design is making more and more of an impression on our culture and our taste. In lighting, this means that architects and lighting engineers/designers are on the look out for ever more unique and innovative lighting solutions for both corporate and urban lighting schemes. To satisfy these new-found stylistic needs, we have developed the Modern Collection, which is marked out by its distinctive, geometric styling and the use of modern materials such as die-cast and extruded aluminium.

This cutting-edge collection is suitable for business parks, retail and leisure schemes and other corporate developments that are keen to establish their progressive, forward-looking credentials. The unique forms, superb detailing and high-tech finishes of these luminaires can be used to complement the best architectural developments of today - and can make a powerful design statement in many other prestigious urban locations. Also suitable for road, street and pedestrian area locations, all luminaires in
the Modern Collection can be fitted with DW Windsor's patented Diamond Optic® light control system for precise distribution and light pollution avoidance.

The next few years will inevitably witness a shift in emphasis in town and city centres from lighting for major traffic routes to the lighting of footways, squares and public spaces in a more pedestrian-friendly manner. Our new Amenity & Area collection brings together a number of lighting solutions for precisely this context - from stylish, wall-mounted downlights to illuminated bollards and high performance area
wash lights.

The main role of this new collection is the enhancement and protection of public space, as with the new bollard collection, which can be used simply to highlight pathways, or to help create a physical barrier to vehicular traffic. All these new fittings are constructed from tough, durable materials and incorporate good optical control. Used on their own, or in conjunction with amenity versions of our column-mounted luminaires, these products will enhance the pedestrian-oriented urban environments of today and tomorrow.

Urban space is defined not just by its horizontal surfaces, such as roads, streets and pathways, but by the architectural and natural features that bound it and create its main points of visual interest - buildings, monuments, trees and so on. As urban lighting becomes more holistic and co-ordinated, architects and lighting engineers/ designers need to consider the effective illumination of these structural features, alongside the more conventional lighting requirements for roads and streets.

We have recognised this seismic shift in urban lighting design with the introduction of a comprehensive Architectural collection, which includes architectural spots and floods, ground recessed luminaires for discreet uplighting and various types of marker light for decorative urban enhancement. Some of the new coloured marker lights even incorporate the latest generation of LED sources, which many believe will be the most important and influential light source of the 21st century.

In addition to our range of luminaires, we also offer a fully co-ordinated collection of lighting columns and brackets in complementary styles and materials. Columns are not merely a means of supporting a luminaire - in today’s urban and suburban environments they should be seen as designed objects in their own right, which can make a huge contribution to the day-time street scene.

Structural strength and durability are important too. We design all our columns according to sound engineering principles, taking into account structural weight and windage factors - and they are all completed with a choice of anti-corrosion finishes. Our portfolio also contains a range of important column accessories, such as banner arms and festoon connection points. In addition to our standard products, we are able to offer a bespoke column design service, with unique bracket details or finishes where necessary. On a project-by-project basis, we can also provide advice on other related engineering issues.
